Description

This book addresses the steps needed to manage the health state of systems and anticipate their failures: choice and location of sensors, data acquisition and processing, health assessment and prediction of the remaining useful life.
The digital revolution and mechatronics foreshadowed the advent of the 4.0 industry where equipment has the ability to communicate. The ubiquity of sensors (300,000 sensors in the new generation of aircraft) produces a flood of data, which requires us to give meaning to information and leads to the need for efficient processing and relevant interpretation. The process of traceability and capitalization of data is a key element in the evolution of maintenance towards predictive strategies. Thus, we have relevant information and appropriate knowledge for making informed decisions prior to the establishment of a strategic policy of predictive maintenance.

Contents

1. PHM and Predictive Maintenance.
2. Acquisition: From System to Data.
3. Processing: From Data to Health Indicators.
4. Health Assessment, Prognostics and Remaining Useful Life–PartA
5. Health Assessment, Prognostics, and Remaining Useful Life–PartB.

About the Authors

Rafael Gouriveau is Associate Professor (HDR) at the National Institute in Mechanics and Microtechnologies (ENSMM), Besançon, France, working with the AS2M (Automatic Control and Micro-Mechatronic Systems) department of the FEMTO-ST Institute. His research interests mainly concern the development of Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) solutions. He is also the scientific coordinator of the PHM research axis from the FCLAB (Fuel Cell Lab) Research Federation (CNRS).
Kamal Medjaher is Professor at the Tarbes National School of Engineering (ENIT), France. He conducts his research activities within the Production Engineering Laboratory (LGP). He currently leads research works in the field of Prognostics and Health Management of industrial systems.
Noureddine Zerhouni is Professor at the National Institute in Mechanics and Microtechnologies (ENSMM), Besançon, France, working with the AS2M (Automatic Control and Micro-Mechatronic Systems) department of the FEMTO-ST Institute. His current research interests include modeling, analysis and control of manufacturing systems, intelligent maintenance systems, e-maintenance, and Prognostics and Health Management (PHM).
