This book explores the field of chipless identification and RF encoding particles (REP): the possibility of collecting information remotely without the need for wires, batteries or chips.
Despite the many benefits of RFID, deployment is still hindered by both economic and technological factors. The high cost of tags, lack of reliability and security in the information contained in the RFID chip and the uncertainty of how tags can be recycled are some of the unresolved issues.
Various solutions have been developed by the authors to reduce the surface of the tag or to improve the robustness of detection and thus to increase the amount we know about this technology.
Considerations such as realization using paper substrates, the development of a low cost detection system and measurements in a real environment have been addressed for use in practical implementations.

About the Authors
Arnaud Vena is Associate Professor in electrical engineering at the University of Montpellier 2 in France within the IES lab. His current research interests are in the field of wireless sensors, RFID systems and printed electronics.
Etienne Perret is Associate Professor at the Grenoble Institute of Technology in France. His current research interests are in the field of wireless communications, especially radio frequency identification (RFID) and chipless RFID.
Smail Tedjini is Research Professor at the Grenoble Institute of Technology in France where he specializes in applied electromagnetics with teaching systems, RF components and circuits.
