Description

This book is a forerunner regarding data uncertainty and knowledge modeling in the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system.

It begins with the state of the art in related topics such as data uncertainty, knowledge modeling, and the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system. This is followed by the presentation of fundamental and conceptual aspects of data uncertainty modeling in biomechanics. Chapter 3 addresses the conceptual and theoretical aspects of knowledge modeling in the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system. The fourth chapter introduces clinically relevant applications in the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system by using the conceptual and theoretical backgrounds of data uncertainty knowledge modeling.

Finally, the concluding chapter presents the software and computing tools which could be used for practical works regarding knowledge modeling and reasoning/inference functionalities of a specific application

About the authors/editors

Tien Tuan Dao is a CNRS Research Engineer at the Biomechanics and Bioengineering Laboratory at the University of Technology of Compiègne (UTC), France. His research interest relates to the modeling of human osteo-articular and musculoskeletal systems using biomechanics and knowledge-based engineering approaches.

Marie-Christine Ho Ba Tho is Professor of Mechanics at the UTC and currently Head of the Biomechanics and Bioengineering Laboratory associated with the CNRS (French center for national scientific research). Her research interests concern the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system, with her recent work focusing on the modeling of uncertainties of the biomechanics data and their propagation in the development of medical computer-aided system diagnosis.
