This book presents a literature review of the recent works regarding the different approaches developed in the framework of the joint optimization of intelligent maintenance and production strategies. The originality of these strategies is that they take various constraints into account, including production management, subcontracting environmental degradation, inspection, and product quality. Optimization is based on an analytical study and/or a study based on simulation combined with experiences. For their validation, these policies are set against industrial case studies and sensitivity studies.
Chapter 1 investigates an integrated strategy of inventory control and preventive maintenance for a randomly failing production unit subject to a minimum required availability level. In Chapter 2, the authors compare two strategies for operating a production system composed of two machines working in parallel and a downstream inventory supplying an assembly line. Chapter 3 develops a joint quality control and preventive maintenance policy for a randomly failing production system producing conforming and non-conforming units. Chapter 4, inspired by an industrial problem, develops efficient maintenance and just-in-time production policies in a subcontracting environment according to two orientations. Nowadays companies have to consider the impact of their production systems on the environment. The fifth and final chapter presents a condition-based maintenance policy for a production system under environmental constraints.

About the Authors
Nidhal Rezg is Professor at the University of Lorraine, France, and has been Director of the “Génie de Industriel, de Production et de Maintenance” (LGIPM) laboratory in Metz since 2006. His research interests include the modeling, simulation and optimization of stochastic processes, reliability and maintenance and Petri nets.
Sofiene Dellagi is Assistant Professor at the University of Lorraine, France. He is a member of the LGIPM laboratory in Metz. His research works concentrate on reliability, maintenance, production management and the optimization of production systems of goods and services.
Abdelhakim Khatab is Assistant Professor at the Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Metz, France. He is a member of the Maintenance and Production Management team of the LGIPM laboratory in Metz. His research works focus on reliability design and analysis, and maintenance optimization of production systems of goods and services.
