Description

Dealing with digital filtering methods for 1-D and 2-D signals, this book provides the theoretical background in signal processing: z-transform, Shannon sampling theorem and fast Fourier transform. An entire chapter is devoted to the design of time-continuous filters which provides a useful preliminary step for the analog-to-digital filter conversion. Digital Filters Design for Signal and Image Processing focuses on the main approaches to design Finite Impulse Response (FIR) and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filters. Bi-dimensional digital filtering, i.e. the image filtering, is investigated and a study on the stability analysis, very useful when implementing IIR, is also carried out.

About the Authors

Mohamed Najim (Ph.D, Toulouse University) has worked in various fields, including microwaves, modeling and identification, adaptive filtering (including H infinity) and control. His research interests are presently modeling and identification in multidimensional signal and image processing, with applications in speech, seismic, biomedical, radar signal processing, textures, and image enhancement. He has published several books, more than 220 technical papers and has taught courses in digital signal processing for more than 30 years. Since 1989 he has been an IEEE fellow member.
